RELAXED SCREENINGS

Number 30 is now offering relaxed screenings, once a month.

A relaxed screening is a film or theatrical event adapted for neurodiverse individuals, people with dementia, or anyone who benefits from a more comfortable, less formal environment. Key adjustments include lowered sound and lighting levels, no trailers or ads, the freedom to move and make noise, and staff trained to offer assistance, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone can enjoy the experience without judgment.  

What TO EXPECT

  • Altered Lighting: Lights are usually kept on at a low level, not completely off, to provide a less startling environment. 
  • Reduced Sound: Volume levels are lowered from typical cinema standards to lessen sensory overload. 
  • No Adverts or Trailers: The film starts with the main content, with no pre-show advertisements. 
  • Freedom to Move: Attendees are free to make noise, talk, move around the screening room, and take breaks at any time. 
  • Informal Environment: Seating can be more informal, and people can choose where to sit. 
  • Supportive Staff: Staff are on hand to provide assistance and help make the experience as comfortable as possible. 
  • Subtitles: Captions will be shown on screen and audio descriptions can be provided for films, if required.

WHO BENEFITS

While open to everyone, relaxed screenings are particularly beneficial for individuals with: Autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities, sensory and communication difficulties, dementia, and other neurodevelopmental conditions or anyone who finds traditional cinema overwhelming. 

THE AIM

The aim of relaxed screenings is to make cinema-going accessible and enjoyable for as many people as possible, helping individuals become more familiar and comfortable with the cinema environment over time.
